Recession in the News

If you’ve been wondering about how the recession is being reported in the news, then you’ll be very interested in the Google Trends tools.  Here we see a huge spike starting in January of 2008.  Analyst now agree that the current recession actually started likely in mid-December of 2007.

It’s also very noticeable that the recession became a huge political topic during the last weeks of the 2008 elections an on into the new administration as bailout crisis concerns are addressed in the news.

This graph is just the graph of the USA search volume on Google and in Google news references.  If you view the entire world, you’ll see that citizens in several countries are searching and writing more about the recession than US people are.
