Unemployment now at 8.5% – 663 Thousand Job Losses
I remember back a year or so ago when unemployment was at 4% and the media was screaming about how terrible everything was and what this was going to do to the Bush legacy.
Here we are today a few months into the Obama administration and 8.5% unemployment is barely a footnote on your local news. This is the highest that it’s been in 25 years. But this blog isn’t about politics, it’s about the recession.
The AP does have a story about it though and you can read more about it at Yahoo and here at the Denver Business Journal.
There is something that nobody writes about though and that’s about how many of those 663 thousand are going to wake up tomorrow and start building their own business.
I’ve found that many people suddenly get the entreprenueral spirit once they have unshackled themselves from their 9 to 5. It will be interesting to see how many new businesses pop up on the landscape over the next 2 years.
